For the last Cultural Equity Forum of this series, we’re excited to invite cultural activists to explore what makes an anti-racist gallery.

At the first in-person CEF event, we’ll have Paul Hobson, Director of Modern Art Oxford, who will speak about the development of the MAO’s anti-racism action plan and establishing the Oxford Cultural Anti-Racism Alliance (OCARA). Participants will also take part in an open discussion and anti-racist gallery manifesto creation activity led by our Cultural Equity Forum Facilitator Susuana Amoah (aka The Black Gallerina).

Food and conversation about the connection between indigenous people’s actions in relation to seed and food sovereignty and young people’s concern with climate challenges and food poverty in Oxford and the UK. 

With Professor of Anglophone World-Literature Pablo Mukherjee, Artistic Director of Mandala Theatre Yasmin Sidhwa, poet Jenny Lewis, and Hassan Sabrie and Nigel Carter from Oxford Community Action.

A Place For We addresses the need for diverse cultural spaces and the lack of an African Caribbean Cultural centre in
Oxford.

The exhibition is part of a collaborative project between Oxford Brookes University and creatives, activists and
archivists from local African Caribbean and Afrikan heritage organisations, and shows designs for a cultural centre by first year Architecture students.
